Sudoku and Lo Shu

Only few knowledge about the source of Sudoku is known. It was formerly called ' Number Place' and was developed by the puzzle designer Howard Garns. The Sudoku square looks similar to the magical square called 'Lo Shu' invented by Chinese..But the Sudoku square itself is not magical.

According to Chinese legend the magic square , 'Lo Shu' first appeared on the back of a scared turtle 2,500 years ago in the waters of the river Lo.Open circles meaning yang odd numbers and solid ones for yin even numbers.

The 6th century Taoist Chen Luan positioned numbers in certain orders that reveals the body parts and its location.Ellis, PhD,AIA Drexel University says that 'Lo Shu' was a representation of universe in a microcosm that relates both heavens and earth through the balance of its numbers thus connecting the two worlds through the cosmic axis. It took 13000 years for the magic square to become popular and public in China in the 10th century.Lo Shu became part of Chinese cult, used in protective charms and in divination. However, by that time it lost many of its cosmological reputation and were no longer used for magical purposes..It degenerated into a riddle. As contemporary culture becmes more peak, ancient magic and its purposes are degraded o a current part of the atmospherical fabric whic is forever being ton and mended again and again..
