THE FATE OF TITANIC

Over the years, the tragedy of the TITANIC has been a source of speculation and fascination for people all over the world. It was the largest ship ever been built and such a technological marvel that she was "practically unsinkable".
The TITANIC was over 882 feet long and 92.5 feet wide that is one-sixth of a mile with 3 propellers,4 funnels, 9 decks and weighed more than 45,000 tons. She stood 100 ft tall and had marvelous features including Turkish baths, swimming pool, gym, squash court,cafe,etc.. The enormous ship was designed by Andrew and Wolff who went down along with the ship and was built in Ireland..It was Titanic's maiden voyage from Southampton(UK) to New York(USA)..The disaster shook her on April 14 , 1912 when she hit
an iceberg at 11.40 P.M. ignoring 6 warnings from nearby ships. There were 2200 people aboard and the full occupancy of the the life boats were only 1178.Only 711 people and the remaining people were left aboard all whom were now doomed. The bow was completely under water and the ship was sinking rapidly. At 2.15 A.M. , April 15,1912 the ship snapped into two and the bow slipped into the cold water of North Atlantic Ocean. At 2.20 A.M. the ' unsinkable' sank..Even though many life boats were not fully occupied many died along with the ship because of 'children and women first' warnings given by the crew.

THE WRECK OF THE TITAN

The fate of Titanic seems to be similar to the novel 'THE WRECK OF TITAN' penned by Morgan Robertson in 1898, 14 years before the wreck of Titanic. The novel portrays an unsinkable ship called "TITAN" on its maiden voyage with only 13 survivors.Though it seems similar to Titanic the weight of the Titan as in the novel is 43000 tons and its top speed is 24 knots. Both ships had no enough number of life-boats for surviving except Titanic was in perfect sailing conditions while the Titan was sailing in a cold storm..One of the early indicators that this would be ill-fated voyage was its nearby collision with a ship named 'New York' which is too listed in the novel..

On September 1, 1985 an American Scientist Dr.Robert Ballard and his crew along with French scientist Jean-Louis Michel discovered the wreck lying more than 2 miles below the ocean surfaces. On July, 1986 ,Dr.Ballard explored the wreck and took snaps underwater.Out of respect, he retrieved nothing out of it.'A Night to Remember ' by Walter Lord is considered as the best book on Titanic..In 1997, titanic a movie was launched with fictitious characters revealing the history of Titanic.

Almost from dishes to clothing to everything has been taken out by numerous divers. The night, TITANIC sank was one of gloom, courage, despair and grief. For most of the parts humanity was on peak with worst of results. It is a night that is never to be forgotten...

  1. It's great :) I meant the post... not.. er.. the tragedy of Titanic. But seeing the facts -- they ignored warnings, had insufficient life boats -- the one in charge of Titanic seems to have been pretty arrogant or something.

  2. probably not arrogant as they were keen in saving children and women first..Of,course they believed cruelly that the ship was unsinkable, that must have made them think that many life-boats were unnecessary..well..thanks for the comment :) :)

  3. The same incident was mentioned in Madan Manidhanum Marmangalum. In which he explored on the incident and how the writer wrote about this disaster with details very close to the happening but the most important part was that the writer himself was also in the ship Titanic and he also died. Do read that book Manithanum Marmangulum :)

  4. the best thing what i read is Morgan Robertson's book was never published as the editors refused till the disaster saying that the story was unbelievable. But there are no sources or evidence for madhan's writings that Robertson died along with the ship ..anyways thanks for the comment :) :)
