SANTA CLAUS

Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas and simply "Santa", is a figure withlegendary, mythical, historical and folkloric origins who, in many western cultures, is said to bringgifts to the homes of the good children during the late evening and overnight hours of Christmas Eve, December 24.^[1] The modern figure was derived from the Dutch figure of Sinterklaas,^[2] which, in turn, may have part of its basis in hagiographical tales concerning the historical figure of gift giver Saint Nicholas. A nearly identical story is attributed by Greek and Byzantine folklore to Basil of Caesarea. Basil's feast day on January 1 is considered the time of exchanging gifts in Greece.

Santa Claus is generally depicted as a portly, joyous, white-bearded man wearing a red coat with white collar and cuffs, white-cuffed red trousers, and black leather belt and boots (images of him rarely have a beard with no moustache). This image became popular in the United States and Canada in the 19th century due to the significant influence of Clement Clarke Moore's 1823 poem "A Visit From St. Nicholas" and of caricaturist and political cartoonist Thomas Nast.^[3][4][5] This image has been maintained and reinforced through song, radio, television, children's books and films. The North American depiction of Santa Claus as it developed in the 19th and 20th century in turn influenced the modern perceptions of Father Christmas, Sinterklaas and Saint Nicholas in European culture^{[citation needed]}.

According to a tradition which can be traced to the 1820s, Santa Claus lives at the North Pole, with a large number of magical elves, and nine (originally eight) flying reindeer. Since the 20th century, in an idea popularized by the 1934 song "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town", Santa Claus has been believed to make a list of children throughout the world, categorizing them according to their behavior ("naughty" or "nice") and to deliver presents, including toys, and candy to all of the well-behaved children in the world, and sometimes coal to the naughty children, on the single night of Christmas Eve. He accomplishes this feat with the aid of the elves who make the toys in the workshop and thereindeer who pull his sleigh.

Nothing seems to have been like school where everything was in control and under fear..It was a world where we polish black shoes with water, hoping that PT days are not holidays, checking if the teacher is on leave, doing geography map works on english class, dreaming about what is on your friend's lunch box, keeping pin drop silence when the head master passes along the corridor, laughing during national anthem, hiding behind friends when teacher asks question, getting angry for funny nick names, thinking about your first crush..Those were the days of innocence and fun that will linger in your memories for longer times...Though fate plays few games there come the sate that makes you never to forget anything of your school days...

                          Ruth Handler watched her daughter Barbara play with paper dolls, and noticed that she often enjoyed giving them adult roles. At the time, most children's toy dolls were representations of infants. Realizing that there could be a gap in the market, Handler suggested the idea of an adult-bodied doll to her husband Elliot, a co-founder of the Mattel toy company. He was unenthusiastic about the idea, as were Mattel's directors.
                            During a trip to Europe in 1956 with her children Barbara and Kenneth, Ruth Handler came across a German toy doll called Bild Lilli.^[1] The adult-figured doll was exactly what Handler had in mind, so she purchased three of them. . The Lilli doll was based on a popular character appearing in a comic strip drawn by Reinhard Beuthin for the newspaper Die Bild-Zeitung.The Lilli Doll is a adult-figured doll it was played only by adults till then.
                            Ruth Handler took the Lilli Doll to Mattel .But intially Mattel refused to accept the doll . So she reworked the design of the doll with the help of an engineer Jack Ryan . It was given a new name "Barbie" after Handler's daughter.The doll made its debut at the American International Toy Fair in New York on March 9, 1959.  Mattel acquired the rights to the Bild Lilli doll in 1964 and production of Lilli was stopped. The first Barbie doll wore a black and white zebra striped swimsuit and signature topknot ponytail, and was available as either a blonde or brunette.  March 9 1959 is  celebrated as Barbie's official birthday. The picture in the right is the first released Barbie doll.

The Motivational Speaker

I'm going to these AIPMT [All India Pre-Medical Entrance Exams] classes and today, they announced that we were going to have motivational classes starting at 2 o' clock in the afternoon. Many were rather disconcerted about this, because being the real hard-working students, they saw this as a waste of time. But I was rather overjoyed [partly because I love philosophy and partly because I dislike classes]. At first someone gave us an intro and then, the motivational speaker arrived. He was a pretty tall man and had a long tilak on his forehead. He was some sort of engineer and had got distinction from ILO and UN or something [I forget].

How Chocolate Got Its Name

The word "chocolate" entered the English language from Spanish.^[3] How the word came into Spanish is less certain, and there are multiple competing explanations. Perhaps the most cited explanation is that "chocolate" comes from Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs, from the word "chocolātl", which many sources derived from the Nahuatl word "xocolātl"  made up from the words "xococ" meaning sour or bitter, and "ātl" meaning water or drink.^[3]

Plastic on Roads - Dr. Vasudevan [Dean, TCE]

It was an exciting morning for us, fellows of 12th standard in Jeevana. The Prefects Swearing-in ceremony has always been like that: nervous about the oath-taking, sitting still like a statue for an hour and even harder, managing to stay awake while some guy drones on about hard work and determination. But this time, it was truly inspiring... because we had the most inspiring chief guest ever - Dr. Vasudevan, a Dean of Thiagaraja College in Madurai, who had invented a process of using shredded plastic to lay roads which last for about 10 years. He wasn't just some absent-minded scientist working on formulas and stuff for application of chemistry. He was a... visionary, yup... that's the word for it. He is someone who dreams of India as more prosperous than it is now, someone who encourages innovation and environmental protection and someone who values humility and spirituality.

Studying is one of the important activities that human does all his life, so everyone in this world are students. Some are self-taught others are taught by a teacher but the most important thing of what we study is to remember it, here is where the teacher should help the students to remember what they have studied by relating the things with day to day activities and practical examples. Creativity in human mind is best reflected in the form of Art, Art and Civilization have connections for thousands of years. The first step when the ancient civilization progressed was when they started to draw graffiti in the rocks. As civilizations reached the modern stage the art produced by human beings were exemplary, thoughtful and shows the social and economic landscape of the time they lived. Art has always had a huge number of Followers, especially the upper class supported Art on all times. I strongly believe that achievements of a culture or civilization should be judged by the art that has been produced.           Those grinning faces had the perfect set of teeth one could ask for.Rick's legs were trembling as he felt the coldness of the hands that was clutching him.Rick turned towards Paul.His spiked had hair had come down over his forehead and his face was pale.Both displayed the perfect set of emotions indicating both were terrified at what they were seeing which stood at the front.But both thought to themselves that they are masking their horrors,but they were on the negative.

Hey Guys, If God gives me a extra 15 minutes everyday, I will ask him for another boon, please make me sleep that 15 minutes without any other work to do. This shows that how much I love sleeping but which I forcefully avoid due to my other passions like chess,books and friends. I would like to share with you guys an interesting event in my life from the past.

Physics and Practicals followed by curiosity

As the proverb says ' Curiosity kills the cat' it happens quite often.I may not be sure that curiosity mostly leads to embarrassing situations but sometimes it does when you are over curious..Well this incident is one such when i was damn curious in physics class..Our group was provided with two beakers one filled with kerosene and another with hydrogen oxide (water, of course).The aim was to measure the density of the liquid with help of lead shots. As usual my friends allowed me to do first knowing my uncontrolled anxiousness ..Oh,yeah ! i did it and the results were good except for the kerosene

Some Tips...

Now am going to give you all some health tips which I got from my aunt. I dunno whether it works or not But some can believe in this.....First of all one thing before taking these tips . One should have positive thoughts before doing these ...

.To Become slim...

Many of you may want to become thin. Its a thing for people that being some what fat is a curse and they feel like they were pushed alone always.

1.Add a teaspoon of honey in a tumbler of hot water and mix it well . Drink this every morning to become slim. My brother has tried this and got some improvement after a while. This may take some time But be regular.

To Become fat....

Most of the thin fellows will be teased due to their thin body. But you know only they can do everything with that body even if they beat it will be more painful.But if any of you like to become fat

1..Add a teaspoon of honey in a tumbler of milk of medium heat and mix it well . Drink this every night before going to bed to become fat.I am doing this these days .It should be done regularly as I refuse this even my mother compels as I don't like milk.{care:don't add honey in hot milk as the milk will get wasted}

2. Eat a country banana(naatu vazhai palam) daily night. This will surely improve your body and blood circulation.

To Become tall....

hahaha... mostly many will drink complan for this... But you know there is another way. Do some skipping and pull ups to every morning . May be this will make you taller...

These tips are for our satisfactions . But if we maintain our normal diet and eat consistently doing proper work and taking proper rest we could maintain our body .

But try these out carefully and regularly for some improvement.

Rick said, "Hey,we have successfully come out of our house,so now do you have any idea what we are going to do now?". Both of their eyesight fell on one line.Both knew what the other thought.And in fact both thought the same-"Feel free to do anything we want to do!!".
             Both were just strolling the dark streets which were just lit a little by the dim street lights.In some cases the the streets were perfectly dark,with no source of light,neither of them care about it.

                The orange rays of the sun poured into Littleville as the small town was about to enter a cold evening,eminent from the breeze which gave the people down there a cold run down their spine.Littleville was a small overdeveloped village where you could not find any lack of resource,and it was almost a city.Kids and children over there are the highlight of the town,they always seem to be carefree,and seem to be withholding just one motto in life- "No matter what,nothing is an issue".All streets would swarm up with teens, doing different activities- playing soccer,bicycle stunts,races,softball,also just gathering at a corner and whiling away time by just munching and chatting general teenage issues...those talks would greatly be over dominated by girlfriend boyfriend talks.....

LIFE ???????

LIFE ? How do you rate it friends? To be precise, hmm.......ludicrous! Life is certainly not a bed of roses but it is also not all thorns and snare. So are you going to rate it based on your woes? Everyone would say life is a drudgery. But not really, because generally when asked about a particular thing people mostly remember the negative points. Not to be blamed because it is our general attitude.
