Thiruvalluvar as a Scientist!!

Hi Guys, I am Priyadharshan, am posting this article on behalf of Hamsini our Exprezzopark blog author as she is in a place with limited connectivity to internet, so she mailed me to post this article and on behalf of her. Thiruvalluvar wrote his thirukural 2000 years ago, on a cursory glance this work will appear to be a great treatise on moral codes

.It also reveals a treasure house of extraordinary knowledge, no doubt he is an international poet.

He talks about the importance of 5 basic elements of the world and their relationship with scientific precision.

Time and space: he gives the importance to time and space and clearly demonstrates their respective roles. He says one may conquer the world if he acts at the right time and at right place.

Kural 484

ஞாலம் கருதினுங் கைகூடுங் காலம்
கருதி இடத்தாற் செயின்.

This shows his scientific temper

Thiruvaluvar refers to Sun as athi bagavan and in couplet 1117 could there be spots in the face of the maid like those in bright full moon.

Kural 1117

அறுவாய் நிறைந்த அவிர்மதிக்குப் போல
மறுவுண்டோ மாதர் முகத்து.

He says the world as revolving earth sulandrum aerpinathu ulagam.


He also speaks of maths and says letters and numbers are the two eyes of man.
எண்ணென்ப ஏனை யெழுத்தென்ப இவ்விரண்டுங்
கண்ணென்ப வாழும் உயிர்க்கு

In couplet 31

சிறப்பு ஈனும் செல்வமும் ஈனும் அறத்தினூஉங்கு
ஆக்கம் எவனோ உயிர்க்கு.

In few couplets he talks about medicine doctor nurse patient in 950.

உற்றவன் தீர்ப்பான் மருந்துழைச் செல்வானென்று
அப்பால் நாற் கூற்றே மருந்து.

He also talks about allergy and over consumption of food allergy in couplet 944.

அற்றது அறிந்து கடைப்பிடித்து மாறல்ல
துய்க்க துவரப் பசித்து.
