INDIAN MOTORCYCLE COMPANY

Indian motorcycles have gone a tremendous revolution and is on a continuous scenario of newer motorcycles with advanced modifications. Day to day on every Indian road we see numerous motorcycles but what type of motorcycles were used before we were born??Indian which was under the regime of United Kingdom was no less to the introduction of motorcycles.

Most of the motorcycles that one could see in India during 1947 were brought by the British Army during the Second World War. some of the notable motorcycle brands during that time are BSA, Indian, Royal Enfield and Triumph. From a small list of motorcycle manufacturers, India has now emerged as the world's largest two-wheeler market. There are aspects of Indian motorcycle history that could be used as lessons in how business decisions seem sound at first, but later prove to be much more consequential than intended.

The Indian Motorcycle Company’s history is a unique tale of a industrial revolution in India. The Indian Motorcycle Company was started in 1901 which won a Gold Medal for Mechanical Excellence in 1904.
In 1920 and 1930s Indian Motorcycle market dominated the American motorcycle market in large extent. In the early decades of the twentieth century, the Indian Motorcycle Company drew raves for its high performance, high quality bikes. After making thousands of motorcycles for use by the Allies in World War II, Indian had a few more good years in establishing large number of Indian black chiefs and scouts which are still now popular.
The 1920s were the decade that Indian motorcycle really made its mark as the premiere motorcycle made in America. The 1923 Indian motorcycle line-up added an exciting new player: the Big Chief… 1920s started out with the introduction of Indian scouts, Four, Prince, Big chief which made their name legendary in speed racing. With Harley-Davidson’s advanced bike introduction in markets, Indian Motorcycle Company came up with the Indian Big chief, a legendary motorcycle

The 1927 Indian motorcycle line-up included the Indian Scout, the Indian Chief and the Indian Ace. Any 1927 Indian motorcycles would be considered historic because 1927 was the year Indian acquired the assets of the Ace Motorcycle. Police departments were busy buying large scale of Indian chief and Scouts with increased production. A 1927 Indian motorcycle is rare to find these days.
The 1944 Indian Motorcycle featured an advanced tank mounted analog speedometer. It also has 42 amps charging system. Although the ride has excellent front head lamps and rear fender lights the system is void of any electrical relays.
In the years that followed 1944 the Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company developed amazing varieties by modifying this all time classic ride.
The 40s were not an easy decade for the Indian Motorcycle Company. The first part of the decade was spent making bikes for the war effort and making and repairing bikes for the numerous police departments that used Indian motorcycles. Their effort during World War II was almost heroic, but after the war was over, they had trouble getting their land legs back again.
The "good" news of 1949 included the invention of the bikini but The Indian Chief, which had been a standard police motorcycle for many years was essentially gone from the scene, however. No Chiefs from the year 1949 are known to exist.
The company was struggling in 1949, and because the British pound had been devalued against the dollar, the imports were cheaper than ever. There was sadness, but not much surprise when the company shut four years later.
Royal Enfield is the oldest motorcycle model in the world that is still in production. The company originated in Redditch, Worcestershire and was dissolved in 1971, but production in India continues to this day. The 1963 Royal Enfield Indian Motorcycle can be found in normal streets even today. The famous crusader bike has made its way till today gaining lot of attraction name and fame. With the logo ‘made like a gun; goes like a bullet” it still has earned its name…

Though much of these bikes were not known a commoner of olden days always owned a Enfield bullet which till date is more superior to other bikes..Though Indian roads are piled up dozens of bikes of various companies like Yamaha, Harley-Davidson, Suzuki, Duke, etc… the first ecological bicycle used and carts driven are not to be forgotten as they are the initiators of modern advancements…
